Leah Van Dyke and Zoe Beaver have been awarded Daniel Briggs Memorial Award Scholarships. The Daniel Briggs Memorial Award Scholarship supports students and their sponsoring faculty annually as part of UCSC’s Keeley Coastal Scholar program and uses the same criteria to select recipients. It provides financial assistance to underrepresented students from California with an unmet financial need doing research connected to coastal sustainability. They have been awarded for their projects titled:

• Leah Van Dyke: Microbial Communities Driving Carbon Sequestration in Coastal Estuarine Wetlands
• Zoe Bever: Filling in the Gaps of the Carbon and Gas Budget: assessing Lateral fluxes of Nitrous Oxide and Methane in Elkhorn Slough
