Research interests: Atmospheric microplastics

Biography
After transferring to UCSC from Cabrillo College in 2023, I have been working towards earning my B.S. in Environmental Science. My research interests include observing and studying microplastic aerosol characteristics along our coasts, primarily on the UCSC Coastal Science Campus. I am excited to continue the research from UCSC alumni, Lauren Hashman, regarding plastic pollution.

Research
Microplastics are small plastic particles found in natural and urban environments. These particles can be analyzed based on different shapes, sizes, and colors. Microplastics potentially become airborne once a size range of 1um to 5mm in diameter is reached. Ingestion of microplastics has been a growing concern for both environmental and health issues. From the UCSC Coastal Science Campus, we analyze sampled microplastic characteristics, quantifying weight, size, and types of microplastics samples collected.
