Biography
I’m from the Netherlands and did my BSc at University College Utrecht, majoring in Chemistry. During my BSc, I did an exchange semester at UC San Diego where I had the chance to dive into Earth Sciences and I completely fell in love. I did my undergraduate research thesis on Uranium and Molybdenum cycling in and around an oxygen minimum zone in the Arabian Sea, and after graduating decided to get an MSc at Utrecht University in Marine Sciences, with a focus on Geochemistry. My MSc research consisted of two projects. The first was the development of a hydrodynamic model to describe the opening of the Bosphorus Strait during the Holocene and subsequent connection of the Black Sea to the global oceans. For the second project I was lucky enough to be able to work with Adina at UC Santa Cruz, and I studied stable Sr isotopes over the PETM to constrain carbonate sequestration in that period. Currently I work in the Paytan Lab as a research assistant on a project about dissolved trace metals in the Elkhorn Slough.

Research
My research interests are broad within the field of geochemistry; anything from groundwater contamination from mining runoff to carbon cycling in intermittent streams will pique my interest. Currently, I’m studying trace metals in the Elkhorn Slough, and carbon and nitrogen isotopes in authigenic carbonates formed at marine methane seeps.
