Biography

I am a fourth year Earth Science major with a concentration in ocean sciences. I am interested in learning about anthropogenic effects on Earth and how they affect global biogeochemical cycles.

Research
My research investigates the processes that transport ions throughout wetlands such as tidal exchange and subsequent penetration into subsurface pore waters. I hope to explore the correlation between major anion (e.g. sulfate, chloride, phosphate) concentrations and net carbon burial. I am analyzing subsurface pore water samples from Elkhorn Slough from the wet and dry season to investigate these processes. Understanding carbon dynamics is especially important as the planet is undergoing local and global anthropogenic changes that have or likely will alter carbon balances in wetlands.
