Research interests: modeling phytoplankton

Curriculum Vitae

Biography
I earned my undergraduate and PhD degrees in applied mathematics from the University of Liverpool. After completing my doctorate, I worked for several years as a numerical ocean and marine ecosystem modeler at the National Oceanography Centre, also in Liverpool. I then decided to venture outside of my hometown and took on research positions at Yonsei University in South Korea and then later Florida Atlantic University, where I continued my work in numerical modeling of marine ecosystems. Returning to the UK, I held short-term positions as a lecturer in mathematics at Liverpool Hope University and as a high-performance computing specialist at the University of Edinburgh (EPCC), before returning to the US.

Research
My research has primarily been focussed on modeling phytoplankton, particularly the ways in which these little critters band together in the turbulent ocean that surrounds them. My other areas of research have included; ocean turbulence model development, numerical modeling of biogeochemical cycles in lakes, applying deep learning techniques to model freshwater aquaculture systems, and (slightly unrelated) numerical analysis of the Reimann-zeta function, related to the distribution of prime numbers.
